Nebraska U has done quite a bit of research and number crunching on dry lot cow/calf.
Just shooting from them hip, seems like if you can source your feed cheap enough, a half year in the dry lot is comparable to year round on higher priced pasture. Once you get to year round dry lot, things get a lot tougher.
