When I use to vertical till a lot, it worked best after the stalks had weathered for a month. Hard to be proud of the job you did when you look at it right after you finished, but come spring, everything settles down and makes for a great seed bed…as long as you get a rain after you till so the wind doesn’t rip all the fodder out of the dirt and put it in piles
