SE South Dakota | Sounds pretty good, Ive been thinking a lot about rotations as well and mixing in small grains... personally think mixing in a small grain and a cover after is way more beneficial to the soil then trying to make covers work this far north. We get hardly any growth here at all especially with these dry falls.
The big benefit IMO is you are prumping way more carbon in your soil with a heavy grass crop rotation instead of a corn/bean rotation (beans actually rob carbon from soil instead of adding it)
Only thing I would suggest is after the 3-4 years of corn rotation run soybeans and then wheat to give the pest and disease cycle a two year break of corn... Your Corn will be better, your wheat will be better after beans, and your beans should be great considering they would have a 4-5 year break in between
Look up "Dawyne Beck Crop rotations on Youtube" them guys have done a lot of crop rotation testing over the last 40 years, a lot of unconventional wisdom to pick up listening to them, even if your not into no till | |
