North West IA/western AZ | I was diagnosed over 10 years ago and neuropathy was the reason I retired. Diagnosis was an ENG test (I think) done by a neurologist. Then they started putting me on different drugs and I refused the ones that made me feel worse. Gabapentin has helped some but I hate the way it slows my thinking. I wish I had known more about diabetes back then because it is the biggest cause. My primary physician was only testing fasting glucose to conclude that I wasn't diabetic. You also need an A1C test and a fasting insulin test plus a few more to tell for sure. I am now trying to reverse the damage done to my nerves by eating too many carbs but it takes a long time to heal nerves. I'm still hopeful that it is possible. | |
