On ours the original drive roller was just a piece of pipe with some belting glued to it and a few pop rivets.
We replaced the belt on the drive roller several times and never would drive very well.
We finally ordered a new drive roller and I think it was a little bit larger diameter and the rubber is vulcanized to the pipe that worked a lot better.
