I gave $1,500 for a old style side load 2 point 256 vermeer in some random auction a few years ago and use it to do what you're wanting to do. Mine prefers starting with a 5' bale as a 6' takes a little work to get going. I run a horizontal auger mixer and it cuts it down good enough I've refused to replace the worn out knives on my augers for a few years now. I also used to just unroll bedding bales and the decrease in bales needed to get through the winter and calving easily paid for the processor.
