Oh boy.  Windows 8 is old and support was discontinued about two years ago.  That doesn't mean it won't still work but it also means that software developers won't design for it.  SMS discontinued support for that operating system in May of 2024 so unless you will need to download SMS version 23.6 or lower.  That still doesn't solve your S mode problems though.  I know you want to fix your computer but I'd suggest cutting your losses and getting a new machine.  Spend your money having someone help you move the data over.
