Are you open to using an app on your phone? I have been using an app called Genius Scan for several years. It’s free. You take a picture of what ever you want and it saves it to a pdf. As long as you have a stark contrast between what you’re taking a picture of and the background, it automatically crops it for you. You can add more pictures to make a multi-page document, can save it to Dropbox, OneDrive, etc., or it will save it to your phone and you can email it to yourself. I don’t use it often, but it works well
