| The largest struggle is getting enough help in the rural areas. The labor pool is definitely limited and traveling nursing and aide help is very expensive.
As far as your mother's bill, I'm guessing she and the other private pay residents are making up for the medicare and medicaid reimbursements that don't cover actual costs. That surcharge can vary greatly between facilities, depending on the number of private pay compared to the number of residents getting assistance.
The local home in my former town where I was on the board is trying to raise $500,000 for a cushion to keep the doors open. I personally think they need to be looking for someone to merge with, but with the uncertainty, I doubt any operation is looking to expand. | |
