I think you are probably right but I would really like to hear why you would say that.
I've seen way too many long term, highly successful "tillage" organic farmers struggle with organic no-till. It is a highly managed process that requires a deep understanding of your farm and excellent luck with weather.
Especially up here in the tundra, it's extremely difficult to establish the thick cover crop needed for weed control. It can be done but you'll likely either plant very late, harvest early, or modify your rotation. All of those options likely results in reduced overall production.
Yes, there are those that can do organic no-till successfully on a large scale, but it took them a long time to get there. 99% conventional farmers are in no way prepared to tackle that challenge if forced to do so. |
