A friend had an accounting program that worked for him, the company wanted a significant amount of money to upgrade the program to work on his new computer.  The upgrade had all sorts of confusing bells and whistles that were unnecessary.

He purchased a copy of Windows 7 and used Vmware to install that on his new computer.  Now he simply runs the Vmware, then the old accounting program.
