Subject: What would you do?

Had a heifer calve this morning and she is very protective of her calf. With a little bit of fight I brought the pair inside to their own pen to let them do their thing and then with a little more fight put the calf in the warmer a little while after that.

Once dry, bottle fed it a colostrum supplement and put back with mom. Once back with mom, I watched it try to nurse several times, but it never found and latched on to a teat. So I put the heifer in the chute and brought the calf to nurse. Led it to the teat and it nursed well, pretty aggressively even. But time after time could not find the teat on its own and needed me to put it in its mouth. Was going to try and do this again this afternoon, but its seems like with each handling this heifer gets nastier and nastier. Cant get her to the chute now, and she has almost trampled her calf a couple times now trying to come at me..

What would you do? Leave them be and let the calf get hungry and hopefully find its way? Find a way to get her to the chute one more time? Bottle feed the calf & sell the crazy mom?
