NW IL | Maybe it's inflation. Maybe it's higher input costs rising with crop prices.
I'm still fairly young, in the first half of my 30's, so I wasn't paying attention to the bookwork 20 years ago.
Dad pulled out the FBFM records from 2005 and that year our gross crop sales were around $500/ac. Corn was around $1.95. And he said that was a pretty good year.
Today, with our current rents, inputs, insurance and repairs, it seems like if we don't gross close to $1000/ac we are going backwards (kind of depends on the crop, but you get the idea).
Crazy that things have doubled in 20 years.
