EC North Dakota | You've done all you need to do for now.
If the calf has not nursed by tomorrow, Dad would tie her with a lariat and leave her tied until she calms down a bit. Our calf pens have vertical boards so you can run the rope through so she won't choke if she goes down.
Then you can walk in the pen and put him on all you want. Untie her after she's fed for the day and tie her again every day until all problems are solved.
I always wanted to sell the cows that acted up like this. We had one that was crazy during synchronizing, and every year calving. Dad refused. About her 5th year of getting tied at calving, my dad was reaching over her to unlatch her lariat. She threw her head so hard his pliers flew up and broke his front tooth! I said do you see what number she is?!? No, what difference does that make? 566 the same one I wanted to sell 6 years before. :) | |
