In addition to what L bar says, spray the heifers udder and teats with food coloring. If you check and see color missing and or on the calf face, you know it nursed. More than once I've had calves go 2-3 days before I saw them nurse, yet I knew they must have because they weren't hounding the cows to try and eat nor did they croak of starvation.
Thanks that sounds like a great tip to use. My wife just googled the spray food coloring. I asked her if they had it, she didn't know. Might make it standard practice on any heifers we lock up. |
