NW Ohio | Trimble's AgGPS Ez-Map
its so simple to mark out different features with just the tap of a button. You get different icons on the screen for different features allowing you to quickly and visually see what a point on the map is. That is the hardest part to about finding a replacement program. I have an older version of trimble's Mobile software but every point on the screen is the same color and shape. (I believe SMS mobile is the same?) My TMX allows for the mapping of 4 different features with different icons, but I am using 20-30 different features regularly.
looking into Esri's software today hopefully. They have the ability to do the different icons but to collect a point it looks like it takes many clicks of the screen rather than just one. They have all of these extra options when taking a point, (ex. taking a picture) that I just don't need. Also, the points are in a separate menu not just in a scrolling list across the bottom of the screen. For my uses, I just haven't found the perfect program.
There was one other program I found out about on agtalk. I forget the name of it off the top of my head, but I looked at it last year and it looked decent but still required 3-4 clicks of the screen to take one point where the program I am using takes one click for a point. (2 if you have a pop up menu asking for extra info for the point). Doesn't seem like a huge deal but when you are taking 200+ points in a field each day(sometime multiple fields each day), that adds up.
I do farm drainage work and we map everything after install. We map the old plastic, clay, cement 4inch and outlets that we find are are still considered "good" when we are done. Even a lot of the old tile that aren't "Good" anymore get mapped with a different point incase washouts start appearing. we take points over the connections indicating what size tile are involved in each connection. | |
