NS Canada | Stick the pin out forward, Slide the barrel of the tag on so that it's seated far enough that the face of the tag rests against the tagger end. Sometimes you need to wiggle the tag point to get it seated fully. Fold the pin down into position and tag in the proper spot in one good squeeze. And then yank the tagger away while still compressed.
Very rarely I'll have a thin enough ear that it folds up into the tagger opening. But I just reset and try again.
Not sure how you're bending a pin, Been using them for years and have never replaced one.
