Subject: RE: Ins loss

West Central Missouri
Interesting thread. Without reading the policies, hard to say for sure.

Just another opinion -- Value of grain at time of loss, plus any additional handling/bag costs, minus net salvaged value for the grain. Most policies would likely stipulate that you're covered for the policy amount UP TO actual cash value or replacement value, depending on the policy, at time of loss. Might have a good argument for higher price from other's liability policy if the grain had all been contracted for sale at that higher specified price. Crop insurance prices have nothing to do with farm liability policies, other than you are supposed to disclose on your crop insurance (if you filed a claim) that you have a potential/probable claim on the same crop from other insurance, in which case your crop insurance would likely subtract the other claim payout from your crop insurance payout. Liability claims against someone else's policy are a different animal than loss claims on your own insurance policy, can possibly claim some extra $ for your hassle, and nothing wrong with asking for same or similar grain value as you expect on the undamaged grain. Then there are the relationship values to consider -- your neighbor, your agent, gossip, perceptions.
