When I was young a guy in our area rented a Hawkbilt and thought it was great.   That was an early model that didn't even use twine.  A year or so later in 1972 the first Vermeers showed up and never saw a Hawkbilt again.   I remember the bales weren't much more than a blob of hay and could never figure out how they even got them hauled home without falling apart.
