If you aren’t going to give it a job every day, I would strongly suggest staying away from herding breed dogs. They’re great if they have a job but otherwise can be very much a nuisance and end up with high speed lead poisoning.
The lab/terrier cross pups would be alright, Lab crosses usually are pretty good companions. If you want a little more active dog, we really enjoy our Brittany Spaniel. If running off is a concern get a female or neuter a male early.
I’d also shy away from any “ tracking” breed dogs unless you’re willing to pen them up at night. |
