Subject: Confined cattle waterer size

Cullom, Illinois
Does anyone have information on waterer size in a cattle confinement barn? Most manufacturers give a per head number for each model but what is that based on? Gallons? Length? Valve size? Maybe the dairy guys can point me towards some research information. These confinement cattle seem to want to all drink at once after eating. I’m sure there is a pecking order. I guess you could have too much waterer capacity and only be out the extra cost. But I’d rather not have to maintain more waterers than I have too. Especially in weather like we have had lately.
