Central Iowa
I'm the 5th generation to farm our land. One 80 became a Heritage farm in 2017 another 80 will become eligible in 2027 and the 80 I own and live on will become a Century farm in 2027 also. The 40 that my Great great Grandfather settled on ahead of the first Heritage 80 went to the other side of the family and was sold to a neighbor.

I definitely am farming because I want to, I don't have anyone to take over from me. The last couple of years I wonder why I still farm, I'm not quite old enough to retire. I worked in town for 36 years and slowly took over as my Dad slowed down. Finally quit the town job five years ago because I couldn't take it physically any longer, was probably averaging 3 hours sleep a day. Part of the reason I keep going is I have some things I still want to "do" for the farm trying to make it better than when I started.
