Well DNA parentage testing should have pretty much eliminated anything hiding in the closet but it does make sense that the more pigment you put on and the more white you take off you’re more likely to get something close to solid. On the flip side we had 2 purebred angus bulls that when used on straight hereford cows gave a very different look, one bull would have broken faced calves and the other would be pretty well all white faced and sometimes without any pigment, makes me think that there’s something in the base dna of cattle in that regard.
What you say confirms what I have heard from a longtime F-1 breeder that the Angus bull determines the facial marking of the calf when used on Hereford cows. Some bulls throw pretty much all white while others throw the brockle face. |
