Banks like lending money near the top

Truer words right there^

This deal is about to turn south hard for the cow calf guy. If you can find any way to get the lease and maybe run share cows or yearlings on shares this year until we get back to reality; you’d be in the drivers seat ready to buy a really nice herd for half the price or less what they’d cost today. If you could just break even on the share cows or take a small loss this first year and get some hay reserves built up, you will be money ahead in five years instead of ready to get out of cattle and never look back.

Just my opinion, got really deep in cows back in ‘13. Turned out fine as I used the run up in ‘14 to cover losses the next 3 years. Had I bought in ‘14 might not be healed from the deal yet. Had I ran share cows until ‘16 could have purchased another 2000 acres. Hindsight 20/20 though so who knows how it plays out the next 5 years.
