Ludington/Manistee MI area | No better option than a lab. Our lab will shake a woodchuck apart if one ventures into the yard. On the other hand when our daughter was a baby wife sat her and the car seat on the floor of the entry way after coming home while she used the bathroom. Diesel dog walked up and was using his nose to gently rock the car seat other times if she was on the floor he’d walk up sniff her and lick her face. One night she wandered out of bed and downstairs and she was sleeping next to him using him as a pillow. If the kids overwhelm him he gets up and hides in the laundry room. The kids are definitely part of his pack.
Edited to add: I wasn’t a dog person but he won me over.
