Were steel piston cooling nozzles an option/update?

It's been close to 20 years since I had the big cam 1 in our st-251 apart and I remember it having plastic nozzles that came in through the side of the block.

I think he is referring to the piston being "steel"

piston coolers will be plastic about 4 inches long
