East Central South Dakota | nice thought-provoking post. I don't for a minute think my thoughts are the absolute answer. The most enjoyable part of posting is getting some replies that make you think, especially when the conversation is polite and kind. 555 had some good points above. Our economy today is based on consumption, not manufacturing, but is that a good thing? Would it be better to try to swing our economic base away from consumption and more manufacturing? Is an economy based on consumption and money printing sustainable? Good discussion that unfortunately for me makes the whole issue harder to understand not easier.
We probably don't have as much common ground on the world policeman issue. Rome, England, France, Spain, Russia, Japan, China, Greece and many more couldn't police and rule the world. Does our ego think it will end different for us? My checkbook fatigue pretty much is a lock for issue and I love the feeling of a strong military. Use it for my shores not some ingrates half a world away.
