It helps if you start with just removing the trees and brush and can graze it, or leave it alone for a few years. Eyebrows go up when you clear new ground and immediately crop it. Your friend is time - wood rots, and memories change.

We just bought one of these mulchers. It is amazing how much farm ground you gain by beating the brush back to where it was in the 1950s.
