Reason being, this nation has always and will always demand cheap food. Government will always do whatever necessary to accomplish that. What would consumers be screaming about if we did not have those imports? Where would prices be at? Don't get me wrong, I am a cow/calf guy and am finally enjoying what we were long over due for. But it will not last.... I am a realist.
When countries go hungry what happens? Kinda the same if feeders go empty pigs start tailbiting! They do not want people "tail biting" in this country. Sad thing is, that we as producers, are on the short end of the stick a lot of times in fulfilling our Governments "cheap food" agenda. Been that way for decades.
