NEWI | Didnt try any balage but had a wet (moldy on outside but inside was good) straw bale that we tried, ended up plugging the knives and auger. Need someone small to be able to reach in from the access panel on side underneath).
I should say ours had knives (same as sections on haybine) could be they werent sharp enough anymore, but I would hesitate to do anything that isnt dry hay.
Edit to add…. If it will cut it and make it through auger, fan should have no problem. Dont ever remember plugging that.
