G'day - haven't been on NAT for a while. What started as perceived vertigo became much more. Technicians who did a CT scan [for the vertigo] followed me out of the test and said I had much greater problems than simple vertigo, Like two brain bleeds. Presenting as lack of clarity of speech, poor choice of words, general 'not looking well' and [like vertigo] balance problems. Took a 4 hr rough ambulance ride to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where after blood thinners has 'washed' out of my system, neurosurgeons drilled into my skull and set up drain lines. About 125m of fluid accumulated, and the change in all the 'problems' was dramatic. Some months ago a cardiologist had put me on blood thinners, as occasional skipped beats between the chambers of my heart had been detected, and the thinner seemed to alleviate that skip. Also greatly reduced the chance of blood clots forming, which 'clot' could get to my heart - end of story - dead! The cardiologist said I don't need to see him again as long as any further problems don't occur. I think this episode is enough reason to see him again I have two nephews who are doctors, and they caution more research into what is the greater risk, a clot forming and getting to the heart, or the thinners causing a recurrance of the bleeds in my skull. I reckon the above could be classed as a 'problem', as the 'bleed' was causing the overall symptoms. Now back home, but not allowed to drive for three months, and will have further scans to see if the whole thing has stabilised. Anyway - for the present I am home, only restriction being not driving on public roads for three months.! |
